How your individual fee is decided

Implant treatment is priced per case because cost varies with the number of implants, the materials used, whether bone grafting or a sinus lift is needed, and whether sedation is used. Imaging is not included in the implant fee — a CBCT scan is quoted separately and dental X-rays are charged at £20 per image (£10 for members) if clinically required. Your final fee is set out in writing in your individual treatment plan before any surgery goes ahead.

* Member pricing applies to SPMD dental plan members. Plan fees and membership terms apply.

Are Dental Implants Right For You?

Suitability for dental implants is decided after a clinical assessment and a CBCT scan. Factors that affect suitability include the volume and quality of your jaw bone, the health of your gums, your general medical history, certain medications, uncontrolled diabetes and smoking. Some patients require preparatory treatment such as a bone graft or sinus lift before implants can be placed. For others, a dental bridge or denture may be a more appropriate option. Your dentist will explain the most appropriate option for you at consultation.

Risks and things to know

Dental implant placement is a surgical procedure. As with any surgery, there are risks. These will be explained in writing as part of your treatment plan before you consent to treatment.

  • Post-operative pain, swelling and bruising in the days after surgery.
  • Infection at the implant site, which is uncommon but possible.
  • Damage to nearby nerves, which can occasionally cause temporary or, rarely, longer-lasting numbness or altered sensation in the lip, chin or tongue.
  • Sinus involvement in the upper jaw, which can require additional treatment.
  • Implant failure to integrate with the bone (osseointegration failure) — uncommon but possible.
  • Peri-implantitis (inflammation around the implant) if oral hygiene and routine maintenance are not maintained.
  • Implant survival rates of around 90 to 95 percent at 10 years are reported in clinical literature; longevity varies between patients and is not guaranteed.
  • Smoking, uncontrolled diabetes and certain medications can affect healing and implant success.
  • Quoted fees are confirmed in writing in your individual treatment plan; prices on this page are subject to change.
  • You are welcome to take time before deciding and to seek a second opinion if you wish.

If at any point you are unhappy with your care, we welcome your feedback. Our complaints procedure is published on our website and a copy is available on request.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does a dental implant cost in London?

At our Medical & Dental clinics in London, a single dental implant including the crown starts from £2,950. SPMD dental members receive a reduced fee from £1,475 (membership terms apply). Your individual fee is confirmed in writing after consultation because the final cost depends on the number of implants, materials, imaging, any preparatory work such as a bone graft or sinus lift, and whether sedation is used.

What is included in the single implant price?

The single implant fee covers the clinical time of your treating dentist, the titanium implant fixture, the abutment and the porcelain crown that sits on top. A CBCT (3D) scan, dental X-rays (charged at £20 per image, £10 for members, if needed), the consultation and treatment plan, any bone graft or sinus lift, and sedation are quoted separately.

Why is a CBCT scan needed for implants?

A CBCT (cone beam computed tomography) scan is a low-dose 3D X-ray that allows us to assess the height and width of your jaw bone and the position of important structures such as nerves and sinuses. This is used to plan implant position safely. We will explain the findings to you and quote any imaging separately to the implant fee.

How long do dental implants last?

Published clinical evidence reports survival rates for individual dental implants of around 90 to 95 percent at 10 years, with many implants lasting longer. Longevity varies between patients and depends on your general health, oral hygiene, smoking status, grinding habits and regular dental and hygiene reviews. The crown attached to the implant may need replacing during the lifetime of the implant.

What are the risks of dental implants?

Dental implant placement is a surgical procedure. Risks include post-operative pain, swelling and bruising; infection; bleeding; damage to nearby nerves which can occasionally cause numbness or altered sensation in the lip, chin or tongue; involvement of the sinus in the upper jaw; implant failure to integrate with bone; and peri-implantitis (inflammation around the implant) if oral hygiene is not maintained. We will go through the risks specific to your case in writing before you decide to go ahead.

Am I suitable for dental implants?

Suitability is decided after a clinical assessment and a CBCT scan. Factors that affect suitability include the volume and quality of your jaw bone, the health of your gums, your general medical history, certain medications (for example some bone medications), uncontrolled diabetes and smoking. Patients who are not suitable for immediate implants may be suitable after preparatory treatment such as a bone graft, or may be better served by a dental bridge or denture.

How long does the whole process take?

A straightforward single implant case typically takes around 3 to 6 months from implant placement to the final crown being fitted, because the implant needs time to integrate with the bone (osseointegration). Cases requiring bone grafting or sinus lifts take longer. A temporary tooth may be available during the healing period — we will discuss this with you at consultation.

What are the alternatives to a dental implant?

For a single missing tooth, the main alternatives are a dental bridge (a fixed restoration that uses adjacent teeth for support) or a removable denture. For multiple missing teeth, an implant-supported bridge, conventional bridge or denture may be options. Each option has different cost, longevity and impact on neighbouring teeth. Your dentist will explain the most appropriate option for you at consultation.

Do you offer payment plans for implants?

For larger implant cases, including implant-supported bridges and full-arch treatment, payment options can be discussed at your consultation. Single implant cases are normally paid in instalments aligned with treatment stages.

Are the dentists placing my implant GDC registered?

Yes. All clinicians placing dental implants at our clinics are registered with the General Dental Council and undertake regular postgraduate training in implant dentistry. Implant dentistry is not currently a GDC specialist list, so we describe our clinicians as "GDC registered dentists with a special interest in implant dentistry" rather than "specialists."

Will the procedure hurt?

Implant surgery is carried out under local anaesthetic so you should not feel pain during the procedure. Some discomfort, swelling and bruising for a few days afterwards is normal and is usually controlled with standard painkillers. Sedation is available if you would prefer to be more relaxed during longer surgical appointments.
