How your individual fee is decided
Wisdom tooth pricing depends on the type of extraction needed — simple, surgical or complex impacted. The category for your case can only be confirmed after a clinical examination and X-ray. We will give you a clear, written quote before any treatment is provided. Additional items such as CBCT scans, antibiotics or sedation referral are quoted separately.
* Member pricing applies to SPMD dental plan members. Plan fees and membership terms apply.

Is Extraction Right For You?
Not every wisdom tooth needs to be removed. NICE guidance recommends against routine removal of trouble-free wisdom teeth. Extraction is appropriate where there is recurrent infection (pericoronitis), unrestorable decay, damage to adjacent teeth, a cyst or other associated pathology, or where clear clinical indications are identified at assessment. Your dentist will discuss the reasons for any recommendation with you in full before you consent to treatment.
Risks you should know about
As with any minor oral surgery, wisdom tooth removal carries some risks. These include post-operative swelling, bruising and bleeding, infection, dry socket (alveolar osteitis), limited mouth opening for a short period, and damage to adjacent teeth or restorations. For lower wisdom teeth, there is a small risk of temporary or, less commonly, longer-lasting altered sensation in the lip, chin or tongue due to the proximity of the inferior alveolar and lingual nerves. The specific risks for your case will be explained in full at consultation.
Important notes
- Recovery time and individual outcomes vary between patients depending on the complexity of the extraction and your general health.
- Quoted fees are confirmed in writing in your individual treatment plan; prices on this page are subject to change.
- You are welcome to take time before deciding and to seek a second opinion if you wish.

Frequently Asked Questions
How much does wisdom tooth extraction cost in London?
At our Medical & Dental clinics in London, wisdom tooth extraction starts from £250 for a simple extraction. Surgical extractions start from £450 and complex impacted cases from £670. SPMD dental members receive a reduced fee (membership terms apply). Your individual fee is confirmed in writing after a clinical assessment and X-rays — we provide a written quote before any treatment goes ahead.
Why does the price vary so much between cases?
Wisdom tooth removal is priced by clinical complexity, not by appointment length. A fully erupted, healthy wisdom tooth can usually be removed simply; a partially erupted or angled tooth often needs sectioning; and a fully impacted tooth (especially horizontal or deep) typically requires a small surgical access and is more involved. Your dentist will explain which category applies to you after reviewing your X-rays.
What is included in the price?
The extraction fee covers local anaesthetic, the extraction itself, any required sutures, sterile materials, post-operative gauze, written aftercare instructions and a follow-up review if clinically indicated. Imaging is not included: dental X-rays are charged at £20 per image if clinically required, and a CBCT scan (if needed) is quoted separately. Your assessment and any prescribed antibiotics or pain relief are also charged separately and quoted in advance.
Do I need an X-ray before wisdom tooth extraction?
Yes, when clinically required. A dental X-ray is used to assess the position of the tooth and its proximity to nearby structures (such as the inferior alveolar nerve in the lower jaw). X-rays are charged at £20 per image (£10 for SPMD dental members) and are not included in the extraction fee. For some lower wisdom teeth your dentist may recommend a CBCT scan for more detailed 3D imaging — this is charged separately and quoted in advance.
Is wisdom tooth removal carried out under local anaesthetic?
Yes — wisdom tooth extractions at our Medical & Dental clinics in London are carried out under local anaesthetic, which fully numbs the area. You may feel pressure and movement, but not sharp pain. If you have significant dental anxiety or particularly complex impaction, your dentist will discuss appropriate options with you at consultation.
What are the risks of wisdom tooth extraction?
As with any minor oral surgery, wisdom tooth removal carries some risks. These include bruising and swelling, post-operative bleeding, infection, dry socket (alveolar osteitis), and — for lower wisdom teeth — temporary or, in rare cases, longer-lasting altered sensation in the lip, chin or tongue due to the proximity of nearby nerves. Your dentist will explain the specific risks for your case before you consent to treatment.
How long is recovery after wisdom tooth removal?
Most patients return to normal activities within 2 to 3 days, with swelling typically peaking around day 2 to 3 and then settling. Complete healing of the gum and bone takes longer. Your individual recovery depends on the complexity of the extraction, your general health and how closely you follow the aftercare instructions. We provide a 24-hour route to contact us if you have concerns during healing.
Do you accept NHS patients for wisdom tooth extraction?
our Medical & Dental clinics in London is a private dental clinic, so all treatment is provided privately. If your case is clinically suitable for hospital referral on the NHS, your dentist will be happy to discuss that with you as an option.
Do you offer payment plans?
For larger combined treatments, including more complex surgical cases, we can discuss payment options at your consultation. Routine extractions are normally paid for at the time of treatment.
Is the price the same at South Kensington and City of London?
Yes. Wisdom tooth extraction pricing is consistent across both our London clinics. The fee for your individual case is confirmed in writing after assessment, regardless of which clinic you attend.
How do I book a wisdom tooth assessment?
You can book online or call us on 020 7183 2362. We will start with a clinical examination and X-ray (or CBCT if required) to confirm what type of extraction is appropriate and to give you an exact, written quote before you commit to treatment.
