About the Lymphogranuloma Venerium (LGV) (PCR)

The Lymphogranuloma Venerium (LGV) (PCR) is a confidential sexual health test offered at South Kensington Medical and Dental, located at 20 Old Brompton Road, SW7 3DL — a two-minute walk from South Kensington tube station. A swab sample is collected by a registered nurse during an appointment lasting approximately 20 minutes. Results are typically available within 1-2 weeks" and are sent securely via email.

Lymphogranuloma venereum (LGV) is a sexually transmitted infection caused by specific serovars (L1, L2, L3) of Chlamydia trachomatis. It is distinct from genital chlamydia and can cause more invasive disease. LGV can affect the lymph nodes, rectum, and genital area. The infection is more commonly reported among men who have sex with men (MSM). Symptoms may include genital ulceration, inguinal lymphadenopathy, and — in the case of rectal infection — proctitis with rectal discharge, pain, and bleeding. Testing involves NAAT testing followed by genotyping to confirm the LGV-specific serovar. LGV requires a longer course of antibiotic treatment compared to uncomplicated chlamydia.

South Kensington Medical and Dental is a two-minute walk from South Kensington Underground station on the Piccadilly, District, and Circle lines. The clinic is open Monday to Thursday from 9am, with extended hours on Tuesdays and Thursdays until 8pm, Fridays from 8am to 5pm, and weekends from 10am to 4pm. All samples are analysed by an accredited laboratory, and your visit is entirely confidential.
