About the Cardiovascular Screening
Our Advanced Cardiovascular Risk Screening is available at St Paul's Medical and Dental, 5 Ave Maria Lane, London EC4M 7AQ. Located near St Paul's Cathedral in the City of London, our clinic offers convenient access for professionals working in the Square Mile. This screening includes 11 biomarkers with results available in 3 working days, priced at £499 inclusive of blood draw by a registered nurse.
Cardiovascular disease (CVD) remains the leading cause of death globally. According to the British Heart Foundation, around 7.6 million people in the UK live with heart or circulatory disease. This screening measures key lipid markers including total cholesterol, HDL, LDL, and triglycerides, alongside advanced markers such as Apolipoprotein B (ApoB) and Lipoprotein(a). ApoB is present on all atherogenic lipoprotein particles and published research suggests it may be a more informative marker of cardiovascular risk than LDL cholesterol alone.
The screening also includes high-sensitivity CRP (hs-CRP), an inflammation marker associated with cardiovascular risk, and homocysteine, an amino acid linked to arterial health. HbA1c and fasting glucose are included to assess metabolic health, as insulin resistance and diabetes are established cardiovascular risk factors. Lipoprotein(a) is largely genetically determined and is not significantly affected by lifestyle changes, making it a useful baseline measurement.
Our City of London clinic is open Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM. The clinic is a short walk from St Paul’s Underground station (Central line) and City Thameslink rail station. Appointments are available throughout the day, and results include a detailed nurse-written review. To book your Advanced Cardiovascular Risk Screening, call 020 7183 3709 or book online.

Cardiovascular Risk Assessment
Standard lipid panels may not capture all relevant cardiovascular risk factors. This advanced panel includes ApoB, Lp(a), and inflammatory markers which provide additional prognostic information beyond conventional cholesterol measurement.
Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of mortality in the UK
Myocardial infarction can occur with conventional lipids within reference range
ApoB provides superior risk prediction compared to LDL-C alone
Lp(a) is a genetically-determined risk factor frequently unmeasured
Early identification enables lifestyle and pharmacological intervention
Comprehensive risk assessment from single venepuncture
Who Should Take This Test?
Family History of Cardiovascular Disease
First-degree relatives with premature myocardial infarction or stroke warrant personal risk assessment.
Known Dyslipidaemia
Advanced lipid subfractionation provides additional information beyond standard lipid panel.
Type 2 Diabetes or Prediabetes
Diabetes significantly elevates cardiovascular risk; detailed assessment is appropriate.
Adults Over 40
Cardiovascular risk increases with age; baseline assessment allows for longitudinal monitoring.
How to Prepare
Fast for 10–12 hours before your appointment
Avoid food and drinks other than water. This is necessary for accurate fasting glucose, lipid, and metabolic marker results.
Stay well hydrated
Drink plenty of water before your appointment. Good hydration makes it easier for the registered nurse to draw your blood sample.
Bring a list of current medications
Some medications can affect biomarker levels. Knowing what you take helps our team interpret your results accurately.
Avoid strenuous exercise for 24 hours beforehand
Intense physical activity can temporarily affect certain blood markers including liver enzymes, muscle markers, and hormone levels.
