A tooth that was grumbling during the week and erupts into serious pain on Saturday morning is usually an inflamed or dying nerve. Saturday assessment lets us numb it and start treatment before Sunday.

Weekend emergency dentist: Saturdays in Marylebone, Sundays nearby
Weekends are when dental problems are hardest to deal with: the routine practice is shut, the pharmacy shelf runs out of ideas and the pain has all of Sunday to build. From 1 October 2026, Wimpole Street will open on Saturdays from 10am to 4pm for emergencies and routine care alike. We are closed on Sundays, and we say so plainly, because our South Kensington clinic is open every day of the week and is the right place to call on a Sunday. Before the Marylebone clinic opens, South Kensington covers the whole weekend.

Right now: what to do

Ring first. On a Saturday call Wimpole Street (from October) or South Kensington; on a Sunday call South Kensington on 020 7183 2362. A phone call means a slot is held rather than you queuing.

Take a painkiller as directed on the pack. If a pharmacist confirms both are suitable, paracetamol and ibuprofen can be taken together or alternated for better cover.

Rinse with warm salt water and keep any cavity or broken area clear of food.
- 04
Cold compress on the cheek for swelling; never heat. Sleep propped up if the tooth throbs at night.

Keep any fragment of tooth or a lost crown in a small pot of milk and bring it along.

For a knocked-out tooth, reinsert it if you can or keep it in milk and go to the nearest open clinic immediately; do not wait for Monday.
Take any painkiller only as directed on the pack, never place aspirin against the gum, and ask a pharmacist if you already take other medicines.

Sporting injuries
Saturday football, rugby and hockey account for a steady stream of chipped, loosened and knocked-out teeth. Speed matters most for a tooth that is completely out of its socket.
Broken tooth or lost crown over a meal
Long weekend lunches and hard foods are a reliable combination. If the tooth is not painful it can often wait until Saturday opening rather than needing a Sunday trip.
Abscess declaring itself
Swellings often appear on waking. If it is a Saturday, come in; if it is a Sunday, South Kensington can drain it the same day.
Wisdom tooth infection
Pericoronitis builds over a few days and frequently peaks at a weekend, with difficulty opening and a foul taste.
Visitors to London
Marylebone’s hotels mean a share of weekend emergencies are people far from their own dentist. No registration is needed, and a written report can go to your regular dentist.

Afterwards
- Use pain relief as directed on the pack and follow the specific instructions for the treatment you had.
- If symptoms worsen on the Sunday after a Saturday visit, phone South Kensington; it is open and has your notes on the shared system.
- Keep any temporary restoration away from sticky or hard foods until the definitive appointment.
- For an extraction, avoid rinsing for 24 hours, then start gentle salt water rinses; no smoking, straws or strenuous exercise for two days.
- Book the follow-up before you leave; weekend treatment is a holding step in most cases.
- If you were visiting London, ask for a summary letter to hand to your own dentist.
