Which tooth
Canal count sets the fee. Front teeth have one, premolars one or two, molars three or four, and each canal has to be found, measured, cleaned and filled.
Root canal fees follow the anatomy. A front tooth has one canal and takes about an hour, so it costs least; a molar has three or four canals, takes ninety minutes or more and sometimes two visits, so it costs most. At Wimpole Street those figures are £695, £795 for a premolar and £895 for a molar, with retreatment of a previously root-filled tooth from £1,200. The number that patients most often leave out of their budgeting is the crown that a back tooth needs afterwards, from £995, without which the treatment is at real risk of being wasted. This guide lists the fees, explains the additions, and sets root treatment against the cost of the alternative, which is extraction followed by something to fill the gap.

Canal count sets the fee. Front teeth have one, premolars one or two, molars three or four, and each canal has to be found, measured, cleaned and filled.
Removing an old root filling and any post before re-treating takes far longer and carries somewhat lower odds, which is why retreatment is from £1,200.
Heavily infected teeth may need an antibacterial dressing and a second appointment. The fee is for the tooth, not per visit, so a two-visit molar costs the same £895.
A front tooth often manages with the bonded filling included in the fee. Back teeth need a crown from £995, and a badly broken-down tooth may need a core or post first.
If you arrive in pain, the first visit may be an emergency assessment and dressing to settle things, with the definitive treatment booked shortly after. The assessment is £30 for new patients.
Unusually curved or calcified canals occasionally warrant referral to an endodontic specialist, whose fees are higher. We tell you at the assessment if we think that is the wiser route.
Root canal treatment plus a crown on a molar comes to £1,890, and that figure can be spread. Interest-free instalments over up to twelve months are available on eligible plans, subject to status, which would be £157.50 a month with nothing added. The root treatment alone at £895 would be just under £75 a month.
Where finance is not used, the root canal fee is paid at the visit it is completed and the crown in two stages, at preparation and at fitting.
Finance is subject to status and terms apply. Medical and Dental Limited is a credit broker, not a lender. Monthly figures are illustrations; your own terms are confirmed in writing before you sign.
Root canal fees in London vary from about £400 to well over £1,200 for a molar, with specialist endodontists at the upper end. Very low quotes sometimes exclude radiographs or the final filling, or reflect treatment without magnification or a rubber dam, both of which affect outcomes.
Our £695 to £895 range is the same across all three Medical & Dental clinics. The fairer comparison is with the alternative: extraction from £250 followed by an implant with crown at £2,950, a bridge at £2,985 or a partial denture from £795. Keeping the tooth, even with a £995 crown on top, is usually the less expensive path over the years as well as the better one for the neighbouring teeth.
