Reading the list

What sits behind a fee

Three examples of why two patients can be quoted different amounts for what sounds like the same treatment.

Crowns: £995 upwards

The base fee assumes a tooth with enough structure left to hold the crown. If a core build-up or a post is needed first, that is quoted as its own line so you can see exactly what pushes the total up.

Treatment page

Extractions: three tiers

Simple (£250) is a tooth that lifts out in one piece. Complicated (£450) means roots that separate or a tooth that breaks. Surgical (£650) involves lifting gum and removing a little bone, as with most wisdom teeth.

Treatment page

Veneers: material choice

A composite veneer (£595) is sculpted in the chair in one visit. A porcelain veneer (£1,095) is made in a laboratory over two visits and holds its colour longer. Both are quoted per tooth.

Questions

Fee questions answered

Because the same procedure can take very different amounts of time or material. A crown on a small front tooth and a crown on a heavily broken molar are both crowns, but the second involves more build-up work and a larger laboratory piece. Your dentist settles the exact figure at the examination and puts it in your written plan.
